My Background as a Therapist

I have worked as a practitioner and teacher in the healing arts for over 20 years and looking back it has been a natural progression to the work I do today.

During a period of personal crisis many years ago, I realized that I couldn't navigate this challenging time alone and needed some support. I began working with a gentle and sensitive therapist who helped me find my way through some overwhelming feelings and physical manifestations of stress.  This was my introduction to the healing power of therapy and  the value of the support and mirroring offered by the therapeutic relationship. It was also the beginning of  my journey of self discovery and personal healing, and I have worked with many varied and gifted therapists since. I believe, and it has certainly been true for me, that we are drawn to work with the teachers and therapists who have the most to teach us at that moment in our lives.

From personal experience and after working with clients for many years, I have developed a strong respect for the transformational effects of talk and body centered therapies. I have a Diploma in Relational Psychotherapy from the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy, a Master's level comprehensive three-year program. I completed a certificate course in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy through the Hincks Treatment Centre, Gail Appel Institute in Toronto, and have studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy which are effective modalities for the treatment of trauma and PTSD symptoms. I completed a 4 year program in Somatic Relational Psychology in 2018.

After being a part of the team of therapists at Helix Healthcare Group since 2014, Helix closed it's doors at the end of 2017. Since then I have joined with a group of my colleagues to form the Healing Therapy Alliance. We are a group of therapists and wellness practiontioners in private practice, sharing a common approach to mental health. Working with and helping people to bring balance and healing into their lives is a fulfilling passion which continues to challenge and gratify me.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) reg #1397, and I am a member of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT).
